behind the matcha

PHASE 1

first harvest

Every mind&leaf drop begins with the first spring harvest, when the leaves are at their most nutrient-rich. These spring leaves are hand-picked on a family-operated farm in Wazuka, Kyoto. Before picking, the plants are shaded for 3+ weeks to deepen sweetness, smoothness, and color.
PHASE 2

steamed + dried

Right after picking, the leaves are steamed to preserve their color and freshness. Then they’re dried and refined into tencha, the leaf used to make matcha.
PHASE 3

stone-ground

Tencha is slowly ground on granite stones until it becomes the ultra-fine, vibrant green matcha powder known for its smooth texture and vibrant color.
PHASE 4

tested + sealed

Each batch is checked for color, aroma, taste, and purity, then vacuum-sealed in Japan to protect it from heat, humidity, and oxidation during transport to North America.
PHASE 5

packed for you

The sealed matcha arrives in its protective inner bag, then is packed into tins close to when you order so you receive it at peak freshness.
